How it is worked out

The fuel is the distance times the consumption: with l/100 km, distance × consumption ÷ 100; with km/l or mpg, distance ÷ consumption. The cost is the fuel times the price. Real consumption changes with speed, load, traffic and weather, so the average your car’s trip computer shows gives the best estimate.
